A haven of tranquility amidst the frenetic activity of the city is provided by Quinta Mazatlan. People travel from far and wide to come here to reconnect with nature, take a leisurely stroll along one of the park’s trails, and observe the numerous species of birds that are native to the area as well as those that migrate through it. This part of the World Birding Center is known as the McAllen wing. By going on a hike across the 15 acres that make up the birding habitat, Quinta is an excellent location to investigate the flora and wildlife of the surrounding area and gain knowledge about it.
The natural plants and animals of the Rio Grande Valley, in addition to the preservation of the 1930s country mansion that is located on the grounds, is the objective of this organization. They are able to accomplish this by offering a safe haven for ecological tourism and education as well as by acting as a source of motivation for individuals of all ages.
Quinta Mazatlan is a historic Spanish Revival adobe hacienda situated on a country estate dating back to the 1930s and located in the middle of McAllen area. It is bordered by lush tropical landscaping and native woodland. Quinta Mazatlan is a one-of-a-kind conference and events center that is conveniently located close to airports and hotels. It is also an urban retreat with peaceful trails that weave through more than 15 acres of birding habitat.
The 10,000 square foot residence is surrounded on all sides by formal tropical gardens that have been supplemented with native flora to serve as living displays of what may be achieved by any backyard birder. The untamed Tamaulipan thorn forest on the outskirts of the island has had additional water and bird feeding stations installed in order to make it more appealing to the local flora and fauna.
Many of the most beloved “Valley specialties” that can be discovered nowhere else in the country may be found at Quinta Mazatlan. Common Pauraques, Clay-colored Thrushes, Green Jays, Buff-bellied Hummingbirds, and Olive Sparrows can be seen routinely along with occasional tropical migrants. Plain Chachalacas build their nests among the palms.
There are activities at Quinta Mazatlan, which name translates to “country estate” in Spanish. These programs range from natural history tours to walks through native plant communities. Participants that sign up for programs titled “Attract Birds to Backyards” can improve their abilities in the process. The restoration of Quinta Mazatlan’s backyard serves as a model for the practice of upgrading and connecting backyards for the benefit of both people and animals.
