Mission is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 77,058. The city is part of the McAllen, Edinburgh, and Mission metropolitan areas. There are two major universities in the city, both of which are located in Hidalgo County. Located near the Rio Grande River, It is a short drive from McAllen and Reynosa.
In 2019, the median age of Mission residents was 31.7 years old. Those who were born in Mission were generally between 22 and 46 years old, with Hispanics and foreign-born residents being slightly younger than the median age. Foreign-born residents were most likely to be born in Mexico, India, and El Salvador. However, this is not necessarily a good indicator of how much money you have to spend on transportation. In the 1930s, oil was discovered in the area, but not as much as the oil fields near Freer. This led Shary and other businessmen to purchase land northwest of the city and sell it to the government for an air field.
